President George H.W. Bush signs the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law.The ADA: Celebrating 29 Years of Increased Inclusion
By the CDE Team

This week marks 29 years since the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)—landmark legislation that works to open doors for people with disabilities in all aspects of community life, including employment. Every day, the ADA helps make a more inclusive American workforce, one where people with disabilities have more opportunities to demonstrate that at work, it’s what people can do that matters.

Through our PSAs, the Campaign for Disability Employment (CDE) is pleased to help illustrate this important message by showcasing the diverse skills and talents of people with disabilities. However, these individuals only represent a small sample of the numerous skills and talents people with disabilities contribute to America’s employers and economy every day.

Employers interested in learning more about how to ensure their workplaces are welcoming and inclusive of individuals with disabilities can learn more on the Resources for Employers section of our website. Furthermore, the Job Accommodation Network (JAN)—which we are proud to have as a member of our campaign—stands at the ready to help employers with questions specific to reasonable accommodations, which are central to the ADA’s employment provisions. Individual job seekers or employees with disabilities may also contact JAN for accommodation-related questions, and may benefit from visiting the CDE’s Resources for Job Seekers and Employees section.

We at the CDE are proud to help illustrate the importance, and the impact, of the ADA—on July 26 and every day. To learn more and join in our efforts, subscribe to our mailing list and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
